Bring Humboldt Hot Air To A Dial Near You

At Humboldt Hot Air, we believe that grassroots radio has the power to unite, inspire, entertain, and uplift communities. We have witnessed this ourselves over the past two years as an internet radio station, and we think Arcata deserves a community radio station on the FM dial run by THE COMMUNITY again! Switching from online only to terrestrial broadcasts will help us deepen our connection with rural listeners, give us access to a network of community radio stations across the world, connect us with the Emergency Alert System so you can rely on us in crisis, and help us reach more of our community.

We are dedicated to holding onto our diverse programming as we make this transition, and you can count on continuing to hear the voices of your friends and neighbors on our airwaves. Humboldt Hot Air will continue to be non-commercial, educational, and community forward. We are, and always will be, a space that is accessible and open to anyone who has something to share. Whether you want to recite a poem, talk about your business, share your favorite music, discuss the state of the world, or program your very own show, Humboldt Hot Air is built for YOU.

Please give what you can and help us grow into a platform that can serve you even better. Your donation will help us purchase the necessary equipment to become an on air, community radio station, such as: a broadcast board, an antenna (on the top of the creamery building!), an Emergency Alert System (EAS), the transmitter itself, and more.

Over the past two years, Humboldt Hot Air has accomplished so much!

We have held space for over 85 volunteer DJs who have programmed a wide range of talk and music shows, and hosted dozens of local musicians and artists in our studio for on air performances and interviews.

We have collaborated with many local organizations such as Black Humboldt (hosts weekly shows), The Arcata Chamber of Commerce (hosted weekly shows), The Humboldt County Library (hosts weekly shows), Hip Hop Humboldt (collaborated on live events and they support the station through underwriting), The Yurok Wellness Coalition (assisted them with recording community PSA's), Arcata High School (tours and education on audio recording), KMUD Redwood Community Radio (content exchanges and general collaboration), KIDE Hoopa Tribal Radio (also content exchanges and general collaboration) Access Humboldt (start up collaboration and content exchanges), and many more.

Thanks to our amazing community, in December 2023 we applied to get our license with the FCC. On January 4th 2024, we were granted! On February 5th, we claimed our call letters, KHHA. Now, we ask for your donations to start our build.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT! Now enjoy some photos!

Our first ever "advisory committee" meeting, which took place in March. We talked about fundraising, censorship, managing our space and long term goals. From left to right we have DJ Rhi Marie, David Rhodes, Anya, DJ Jackalope, Neroli, Jay and DJ Mary Jane.

Inspired by the Women in Radio panel we hosted during zero to fierce last year, one of our programmers, DJ Rhi Mari has been organizing monthly women in radio meetings! We are so excited for this outlet for collaboration and were happy to include three of our programmers in this first meeting. From left to right we have Patricia and Dorothee from KMUD, DJ Mary Jame from Humboldt Hot Air (soon KSLG as well!), DJ Rhi Marie from Humboldt Hot Air and KSLG, Neroli from Humboldt Hot Air, Sabina from KSLG, and Carlina and Kianna from KRFH.

Our technical Directors, the leftoverking and Micah C Miracle, hard at work making sure all things are working properly on our board and microphones!

Our librarians, Bob Doran, DJ 8080, and Harlan Raine holding some of their favorite records in our collection. Got vinyl to donate? Feel free to reach out and one of these guys will come digging.

Saturday night hiphop DJs DRASAR MONUMENTAL and Peezo programming Battlefield Funk Radio Show, which airs every Saturday from 6-8pm.

Tabling at Cannifest September 2023, where we collected stories from people about how they came to Humboldt County and what keeps them here. The full 5 part series from this project is on our Soundcloud! Here we see Humboldt Hot Air programmers, DJ Dental Floss, Bob Doran and Conner.
