Wahid

WAHID (formed 2005 in Los Angeles) is a duo that blends Ottoman maqam, and traditional rebetika (Greek-Turk regional blues from the 1920's) with personalized improvisation. Their instrumentation pairing of Oud and frame drum is literally thousands of years old, however they have created a new, yet to be heard approach using a chromatic bass frame set and improvisation over song forms. Their 5th release "Resonance" is in heavy rotation on the TransGlobalWMC chart and Dore Stein's "tangents" radio show.
