After a two-year break from performance, Jerry Martien will read poetry to a live audience accompanied by musicians Fred Neighbor and Gary Davidson.

These three performers have been a local favorite for many years. The trio’s last performance, in 2019, closed a collaborative art and poetry exhibit with Becky Evans, Water & Power at Eureka’s Piante Gallery. The three had performed at the Playhouse earlier that year as part of the Thad Beckman Band, and expected to soon return to a local venue. Both Fred and Gary are familiar to the Playhouse and local audiences through an old and extended musical family, including the band Home Cookin’.

Since their last performance, Martien has published a third collection of poems, entitled Infrastructure, and another is in progress. The recent work has grown from poems read two years ago at the Playhouse, about migration and the homeless, then from discoveries about Martien’s own family history, and from living through pandemic. The reading will open with poems introduced at Piante two years ago, and go on from there.
